Immunoglobins, Ojas & Ayurvedic Rasayana

admin No Comments

With this Corona pandemic, it seems that the virus and immunity are the future of medicine. The modulation of immune response by using Ayurvedic herbs has now become a subject of scientific investigation. Our body makes different immunoglobulin (antibodies), to fight different things. Sometimes, the body may even mistakenly make antibodies against itself, treating healthy organs and tissues like foreign invaders. This is called an autoimmune disease.

Immunomodulators are considered now as one of the most potent tools in the management of health and disease by modern medicine. In fact, the role of Immunomodulators in modern medicine is yet to be fully appreciated or perceived as our understanding of the immune system is changing at a rapid pace. The more recent understanding of the Neuroendocrine – immune axis or the influence of exercise, circadian rhythms, seasonal variations, different psychological states on the immune system is unfolding many such issues that are bringing the modern concept closer to Ayurvedic principles of Vyadhi-Kshamatva, Ojas, and Bala.

Basically Vyadhi-Kshamatva has a wide meaning and wider implications in Ayurveda. Ayurvedic experts consider it as antagonistic to the strength and virulence of the disease (Vyadhi Bala Virodhitwa). Ancient Rishi Charaka, one of the principal contributors to Ayurveda has also described Bala as the factor, that destroys the Dosas or disease-causing factors viz., “Balam hyalam dosaharam Nigrahaya dosanam” (Ch. Chi. 3/16).

Bala is also referred to as Paraná and Ojas. They have an underlying meaning of bio strength and vitally with a natural resistance against aging and disease. The Ayurvedic term Ojus is very appealing. The Ojas prevents, resists, and overcomes such pathological factors that are produced in the course of the vital activities of the organism and may lead to decay and degeneration of the body tissues. Ojas also provide the body with an appropriate substance, which inhabits, neutralizes, and destroys the virulent factors of the disease. Depletion of Ojas is responsible for many metabolic disorders and over 100 of auto-immune disease.

Modern unhealthy diet and drinks, smoking, alcohol, and viral infections weakens our immunity. The altered immune activity has a central role in many chronic diseases. Inflammation is the central driving force in much of chronic degenerative diseases. Immunological research involving cancer, rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease, asthma, multiple sclerosis, neuropathies, diabetes, heart diseases, and others has not only enabled the understanding of the mechanisms that underlie these diseases but also suggested new alternative approaches on patients minimizing morbidity and mortality.

Rasayana drugs are meant to improve the state of nourishment, which in turn upholds increased Ojas and formation of necessary immunoglobins in the body. Rasayana molecules support vitality and bio strength with a natural resistance against aging, degeneration, and disease. Ayurvedic herbs viz: Withania somnifera, Tinospora cordifolia, Ocimum sanctum, and piper longum are efficient to increase Ojus, regulate the formation of immunoglobins, and boost our immunity.

Widespread muscle pain and tenderness on both sides of the body are the most common symptoms of Fibromyalgia which is often accompanied by fatigue, malaise, and poor sleep. A cognitive symptom commonly referred to as “fibro fog” impairs the ability to focus, pay attention, and concentrate on mental tasks. Ayurvedic therapies and remedies can help control symptoms. Exercise, relaxation, and stress-reduction measures also may help. Ayurvedic supplements help to reduce pain and improve sleep.

Common choices include:
(1) Pain relievers. Sukumar Guggul Rasayana, Jathiphala, and Praval are helpful.
(2) Antidepressants. Medhya Rasayana ayurvedic Ghee
(3) Anti-seizure drugs. Neuro Pills, Omni Tab, Omni Cept, MyoCons, and Medhya Rasayana are often useful in reducing certain types of pain.

Mitochondrial Disease Treatment with Ayurveda

admin No Comments

Mitochondrial diseases are very complex disorders that until a few years ago were little known by the scientific community itself. In recent years, giant steps have been taken in the study of the basic mechanisms involved in these diseases, confirmed by the passage of the main focus of research from the study of the possibilities of making a diagnosis to the identification and development of therapeutic strategies and clinical trials.

The process of converting food and oxygen into energy requires hundreds of chemical reactions, and each chemical reaction must run almost perfectly in order to have a continuous supply of energy. When one or more components of these chemical reactions do not run perfectly, there is an energy crisis, and the cells cannot function normally. As a result, the incompletely burned food might accumulate as a toxin inside the body. This is called Auto-toxin. In Ayurveda, this is called Ama Dosha. These auto-toxins can stop other chemical reactions that are important for the cells to survive, making the energy crisis even worse. In addition, these auto-toxins can act as free radicals (reactive substances that readily form harmful compounds with other molecules) that can damage the mitochondria over time, causing mitochondrial disorders. Mitochondrial diseases might affect functions of the brain, nerves (including the nerves to the stomach and intestines), muscles, kidneys, heart, liver, eyes, ears, or pancreas. Depending on how severe the mitochondrial disorder is, the illness can range in severity from mild to fatal.

Ayurveda can help reduce symptoms or delay the progression of the disease. Ayurvedic treatment with Rasayana molecules is medicinally important. Curcumin, Withanaloids, Boswellic acid, and Fulvic acid are efficient to stop further deterioration of muscles due to several genetic NMD, including mitochondrial diseases. These molecules are basically anti-oxidants, blocks nuclear k-factor, and will help delay the muscle degeneration. Medicines improve muscle strength and functional abilities. Ayurvedic Rasayana medicines do not alter the patient’s genetic code or introduce genetic materials into the body. These safe and natural medicines are developed and being clinically used by AMDS India for Care through Ayurveda research project since 1995.

AMDS India utilizes a holistic multi-modal treatment approach. The patients are examined according to both, Ayurvedic and Western medical methods. The results of these examinations help to design the individual’s clinical programs. The Ayush Samiti, the parent body of AMDS India, plans for long term follow-up studies on Mito human patients. AMDS India currently verifying the efficiency of Prana Drops in Mito children. The focus is on the inhibitory effect on the incorporation of the ribosome -35S into the granulation tissue and the uncoupling effect on oxidative phosphorylation in the mitochondria of granulation tissue.

Fight Neuro-muscular Problems with Ayurveda

admin No Comments

Muscle and nerve weakness, the feeling of fatigue, or poor functional abilities due to pain are common. Potential causes are *neuromuscular disorders*, such as muscular dystrophies, multiple sclerosis, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, *autoimmune diseases*, such as Graves’ disease, myasthenia gravis, and Guillain-Barre syndrome and *Thyroid conditions*, such as hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism. While these conditions are currently not curable in Allopathic medicine, Ayurvedic Panch Karma, Physiotherapy, and Yogic support offer safe, affordable, and lasting relief.

(1) Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a fatal and one of the most devastating of the disorders that affect the function of nerves and muscles. ALS does not affect the senses (such as seeing or hearing). It also usually does not affect mental functioning. It is not contagious.
(2) Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease is genetic peripheral neuropathy. It causes abnormalities in the nerves that supply your feet, legs, hands, and arms. It affects both your motor and sensory nerves. Motor nerves carry signals from your brain to your muscles, telling them to move. Sensory nerves carry sensations, such as heat, cold, and pain back to your brain.
(3) Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a long-lasting disease of the central nervous system. It is thought to be an autoimmune disorder, a condition in which the body attacks itself by mistake. MS is an unpredictable disease that affects people differently. Some people with MS may have only mild symptoms. Others may lose their ability to see clearly, write, speak, or walk when communication between the brain and other parts of the body becomes disrupted.
(4) A muscular dystrophy is a group of genetic diseases that cause progressive weakness of the body’s muscles. Some types of muscular dystrophy will present symptoms in early childhood, while other types will appear in adulthood. Different muscle groups also may be affected depending on the type of muscular dystrophy. Duchenne muscular dystrophy is the most common form of childhood muscular dystrophy. It generally appears in 3-to 6-year-old boys and worsens rapidly. Becker muscular dystrophy has symptoms similar to Duchenne muscular dystrophy. However, symptoms most commonly begin in the teens to mid-20s and progress slowly.
(5) Myasthenia gravis is a chronic autoimmune disorder in which the body attacks its own neuromuscular connections. This causes problems with communication between nerves and muscles, resulting in weakness. Myasthenia gravis affects the voluntary muscles of the body, especially the eyes, mouth, throat, and limbs. In women, myasthenia gravis generally starts by age 20 to 30. In men, it usually starts after the age of 50. But this condition can occur at any age. Males are more often affected than females.
(6) Myopathy is a general term referring to any disease that affects the muscles that control voluntary movement in the body. Patients experience muscle weakness due to a dysfunction of the muscle fibers. Some myopathies are genetic and can be passed from parent to child. Others are acquired later in life and can be due to autoimmune disease, known as myositis, metabolic disorders or other causes.
(7) Myositis is a rare group of diseases characterized by inflamed muscles, which can cause prolonged muscle fatigue and weakness. The group includes the autoimmune disorders juvenile myositis, dermatomyositis and polymyositis, as well as inclusion body myositis (IBM). These diseases, sometimes referred to as inflammatory myopathies, can affect the internal organs, skin and multiple muscle groups of patients.
(8) Peripheral Neuropathy is presented by weakness, numbness and pain from nerve damage, usually in the hands and feet. A common cause of peripheral neuropathy is diabetes, but it can also result from injuries, infections and exposure to toxins. Symptoms include pain, a pins-and-needles sensation, numbness and weakness.
(9) Spinal muscular atrophy is a genetic disorder characterized by weakness and wasting (atrophy) in muscles used for movement (skeletal muscles). It is caused by a loss of specialized nerve cells, called motor neurons that control muscle movement.

Fight Cancer with Mind-Body Approaches

admin No Comments

Many people who had been diagnosed with cancer generally use complementary approaches for general wellness, immune enhancement, and pain management. Findings from a substantial amount of research suggest that some mind and body approaches, such as Ayurvedic  massage therapy, mindfulness-based stress reduction, and yogic support may help to manage some cancer symptoms and side effects of treatment.

Mind and body modalities are part of a multidisciplinary approach for reducing anxiety, mood disturbance, and chronic pain and for improving quality of life in people with cancer. Ayurvedic massages using Pitta pacifying oil and creams are efficient to fight pain and anxiety in people with cancer. To avoid possible adverse effects, the massage therapist should not use deep or intense pressure without the health care providers’ approval and may need to avoid certain sites, such as areas directly over a tumor or a known thrombus, or areas where the skin may be sensitive following radiation therapy.

There is evidence that mindfulness-based stress reduction, a type of meditation training, can help cancer patients cope with stress. There have been rare reports that meditation could cause or worsen symptoms in people with certain psychiatric condition such as anxiety disorders and depression.
Studies in women with breast cancer show that yoga may reduce fatigue and sleep disturbances, reduce depression and anxiety, and improve the quality of life. Most yoga studies have focused on women with breast cancer; much less is known about yoga for people with other types of cancer.

Enhancing Ojus to Heal your Heart !

admin No Comments

Perhaps no other organ is more vital than the heart at sustaining our existence as well as being the intimate connection between our emotional life and overall health. Shockingly, every 20 seconds. someone in the U.S. has a heart attack.
“To protect the heart and great vessels, above all take measures that are healthy for the heart and promote ojas, that cleanse the gaps and channels & help create serenity of mind.” – Charaka Samhita

Many thousands of years ago, the classical texts of Ayurveda identified the specific causes of heart disease as we known them today. For example, it was mentioned that eating too much fatty and rich food along with suffering from chronic mental and emotional stress were considered the root causes of heart disease. Our modern lifestyles are all too familiar with these factors and we could refine the root cause of heart disease as being stress on various levels [physical, psychological, and biochemical-oxidative stress].

Our every experience creates a scar on our mind – an impression on the mind. Every thought creates a groove on the brain. So, the total number of scars is samskar which decides your tendencies and life style. All that action, reaction, behavior – that comes from samskar.

There is a profound relationship for every passing thought, subtle feeling, and fleeting emotion within the mind and its influence upon the entire body. In a way, any action within the mind provides a similar [re]-action within both the heart and brain. According to the wisdom of Ayurveda, imbalanced emotions such as worry, grief and fear can “dry up” the natural storehouse of nourishing ojas and therefore can affect heart-health. From an Ayurvedic perspective, ojas can be enhanced by rasayanas [i.e. rejuvenatives]. There are various forms of rasayanas, however, all rasayanas are thought to operate at the deepest level of our physiology.

“Neuro Cons” – a unique natural blend which is dietary supplement for heart-Ojus-consciousness! It is ayurvedic formulation Ashwagandha, Shilajit, Mukta, Abhrak, Yashad processed with Brahmi Ghrut (Ghee).
Remember, Ojas has the capacity to counteract the etiological factors or causes of disease !!

SAY GOOD BYE TO HAIR LOSS WITH KESHYA

admin No Comments

Who doesn’t want a head of luxuriant hair that is well groomed and styled? Even those who are not too bothered about their clothes, tend to fret about their hair, especially if they suffer from hair loss. Hair loss is a global problem for millions of people of both sexes, across age-groups.  Little wonder then, that hair care products and treatments, constitute a multi-billion industry today.

There are oils, shampoos and other products that offer specific solutions to hair problems. But as they only work on the surface of the scalp and the hair and most of them contain harmful chemicals, they tend to either be ineffective or damage the hair in the short or long term.

Expensive hair-regeneration treatments hold out the promise of ‘crowning glory’ to those who are losing hair, but they need to be done only by experts who can gauge the dangers and side-effects on those undergoing treatment. Drugs and drug-based solutions are popular too, but they come with their own set of side-effects and contraindications, whether they are used topically or consumed internally.*

The drawback with hair care products and drugs is that they don’t have a holistic approach to hair-health, because problems related to hair are not only localized, but also have deeper roots in the form of nutrient deficiencies and imbalances in the body.

As you can see, the last two factors are not localized but are still directly connected with hair-health. But there is no cause for despair. There is an excellent solution to all hair-related problems, which not only solves your hair problems, but also tones up your liver and general health. Keshya, is that wonderful Ayurvedic health supplement that has been developed by the world-renowned Ayurvedic Physician, Dr. Mukesh D. Jain, with some of the most effective, scientifically proven, and time-tested herbs. It has been clinically evaluated for over two decades for its efficacy in controlling hair loss and promoting overall hair-health and is completely safe for both men and women.

The most important ingredient of Keshya is Bhrangaraj, (Eclipta Alba), which is also known as Keshraj in Assamese and Karisalankanni in Tamil. This Ayurvedic herb is scientifically verified for its efficacy as a liver cleanser and tonic. As we saw above, hair loss can be the result of the imbalance of pitta in the liver – one of the tridoshas elucidated in Ayurveda. Ranjak Pitta, produced in the liver directly affects hair health, including thinning, premature greying and discoloration of hair.

In addition to correcting the imbalance of pitta, Bhrangaraj has a host of other hair-related benefits too. It boosts blood circulation to the scalp, which ensures better nourishment for the hair follicles, resulting in healthy hair growth. This miraculous herb is regarded as the ‘Rasayana’ in Ayurveda – an ingredient that rejuvenates and slows down the ageing process. It has been proven to be better than Minoxidil in regeneration of hair, without any side effects!

Besides Bhrangaraj, there are other excellent herbs in Keshya, which have a wide range of benefits

  • Emblica Officinale, acts as an antioxidant and helps fight free radicals that damage the hair.
  • Centella Asiatica (Gotu Kala) increases blood circulation to the scalp and nourishes hair follicles, strengthening them.
  • Rajat Bhasma is a rejuvenating herb that helps brain nerves, fights against anxiety and stress and boosts immunity.  Mouktik (Pearl) Pishti is a natural calcium that corrects the pitta imbalance in the liver, prevents premature graying and discoloration, and helps in hair growth.
  • Aloe Vera contains enzymes that help repair dead cells on the skin. It also conditions and prevent itching and dandruff.

Why waste money on expensive hair care products that might not deliver what they promise or risk your health with drugs that come with side-effects?  Go for the ancient wisdom of Ayurveda in the form of Keshya, which is both safe and effective.

*Minoxidil, a vasodilator used to treat cardiac problems is applied on the scalp in the form or drops and foam, to help hair growth. Though how it works is not very clear, it is supposed to be effective. The other steroidal drug, Finasteride, is used in the treatment of baldness in men and works by decreasing the amount of Dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a male hormone linked to hair loss and other health problems.

Give your body an internal scrubbing with Detox Drink

admin No Comments

The human body is a wonderful machine, but like all machines, it needs to be nurtured, maintained and cleansed regularly to prevent accumulation of unwanted deposits and toxins, to run smoothly. However, the fast-paced life we lead today interferes with the eating, sleeping and eliminating functions, making it very difficult for us to keep our bodies free from toxins. For, while it is easy to wash off external grime and dirt, we can’t scrub our internal organs!
Ayurveda identifies Ama, (auto-toxins) as one of the culprits for poor health. These are produced in the body due to seasonal changes, ageing, unhealthy food and lifestyle, among other reasons. There are three types of ama, of which the first kind – sticky ama – is produced due to the accumulation of fetid and decomposed food in the large intestines. As a result, the digestive enzymes stop functioning properly and the system gets affected, causing illness. In fact, the first stage of any disease is sometimes called ama, which in Sanskrit means undigested or uncooked.
Our gut has a lot more importance in our body than we give it credit for. Scientists call it the ‘second brain’, because of its very intricate web of over 100 million neurons. It is estimated that 95% of serotonin, the chemical that influences our moods is found in the guts. Not just all these, but the gut also controls the immune system of the body. Naturally, when the gut is polluted, it affects not only our physical but also our emotional wellbeing.
Elimination of toxins from the deeper tissues, organs and channels is achieved through detox and rejuvenation treatments, which are at the core of Ayurveda. While some of the cleansing treatments are complicated and need expert supervision, there is a super-easy way to detoxify.
